PRINCIPAL'S REFLECTION
Congratulations in advance to all of our 7th and 8th grade students who will participate in our school Science Fair tomorrow. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend and see the outstanding work done by our young scientists. Special thanks go out to our volunteer judges, Mrs. Gormley and Mr. Abraham for helping the students to prepare for the interesting and creative research projects.
Please note, as corrected in our calendar, we are now going a full day on Friday, March 19th. After our principals meeting next Thursday, I hope to have our make-up days/times finalized for our school calendar. Thank you for your patience.
I would like to take this time to congratulate our 8th grade students on their high school acceptances. These acceptances are due to arrive home this weekend. I would like to thank our outstanding faculty PK-8th grade as they have prepared our students well for their journey as freshmen in high school. A special thank you to the individual eighth grade teachers who have spent a great deal of time writing recommendations for our students. In addition, thank you to the parents who have and continue to support our mission here at Saint Leo the Great School. A final list of student choices will be published once all high school selections have been decided.
As Always, for the children,
Mr. David DiPippa, Principal
THANKS & PRAISE
FUTURE OPEN HOUSES

FROM MRS. WASHINGTON
Girls, K-8, please remember that stockings, socks, or knee socks need to be white. Black stockings, socks and knee socks are for grades 6-8 only.
K-1 (Mrs. Merrill and Mrs. Hesse)
would like to thank Mrs. Dowd, Mrs. Morrison and Mr. Wong for a wonderful Chinese New Year presentation including a story, craft and snack.
FROM THE KITCHEN
Due to the unique circumstances of the February snowstorm and the Ash Wednesday Mass in the gym, hot lunches will be reimbursed to those families that paid for them on those days. A "Lunch Credit" slip will be issued to those families towards the April lunch menu. This applies to the hot lunch on February 3, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 17. This credit will be valid for the April menu only. No cash refunds will be given. It is up to the families whether or not to use this credit. If not, the missing lunches will be forfeited. Again, this only applies to those families who purchased lunch on those days. More information will be sent out with the April lunch calendar. Questions, please contact Mrs. Cate kitchen@saintleothegreatschool.org
In order to become eligible for receiving funds from this program, K-12 students (preschool is not eligible) must satisfy all of the criteria described below:
The funds from the program will be paid directly to the school that the qualifying student attends. Schools will then credit the tuition accounts for those families who have been approved to receive aid for that school year. When submitting your application, please be sure to answer all the questions on the student aid form and include all the documentation requested in the instructions. Applications can also be completed online (www.factstuitionaid.com). The deadlines for filing applications are January 22, 2010 for high school tuition and grant program, and March 5, 2010 for elementary tuition and grant program. A packet of information and its program is also available in the front office.

PTO REMINDER
Because of the snow days we have extended the deadline until March 4th for the PTO Volunteer Survey. Tell us what you think about the parent participation program at Saint Leo's. Surveys were sent home through the students. If you have not received one, please contact the PTO at saintleopto@saintleothegreatschool.org and we will email one to you. You may return the survey through your child in an envelope marked, "PTO Volunteer Survey." Thank you to all the parents who have already completed and returned the surveys. Your feedback is very important to us. Don't forget to log one hour of volunteer credit for completing the survey.
Inclement Weather/School Closings
When the Fairfax County Schools are closed because of hazardous road conditions, Saint Leo the Great School is also closed. If Fairfax County makes a change in the opening or closing of school due to weather conditions, Saint Leo the Great does the same. It is the parent/guardian's responsibility to consult first the school website, or listen to the radio or TV for this information. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL. In cases of inclement weather, or other non-weather related emergencies, and the cancellation of classes once school is in session, calls from the children to the parents/guardians will be discouraged. Since our school is air-conditioned, we DO NOT FOLLOW Fairfax County School closings due to intense heat.
If Fairfax County Schools are not in session and Saint Leo the Great is in session, first consult the school website or listen to WMAL 630 AM or WTOP 103.5 FM, channel 4, channel 8, channel 9, and channel 7 for any school closings or adjustments in opening times.
When school closes early all children must be picked up from the Extended Day Program within two hours of dismissal. Parents/guardians are responsible for listening to the radio or T.V. for announcements.
If Fairfax County cancels after school activities, the Extended Day Program will close within two hours of dismissal.
