PRINCIPAL'S REFLECTION
March 29th through Arpil 1st marks the last days of the third quarter. Please remind students to check with their teachers to see if they have any outstanding assignments that need to be turned in. Students should always prepare in advance for any quiz or test and be sure projects and homework are turned in on time. If they need assistance in any subject, they should contact the individual teacher to set up a time to review or answer any questions. If parents need to contact individual teachers, please do so via email. Together we can help our students to continue to “Grow in Grace and Wisdom.”

During the month of March, the PTO begins to set its course for the upcoming school year. The first step by the PTO nominating committee will be to present a nominated slate of officers for this coming school year. Presently, we will have several openings for next year on the Board. As the PTO does their work, it is often not easy to recruit parents to take on the responsibilities necessary to keep an active PTO. I want to make a personal plea for participation in the PTO. Without the partnership between the school and PTO, Saint Leo the Great School would not be the outstanding Blue Ribbon School that your children enjoy and deserve. Through fund-raising efforts such as the upcoming dinner auction, and the generosity of parents, the PTO has provided many enhancements and activities for the total school program. Thank you in advance for your consideration to be a part of this organization. More information on the nominating slate of officers will be forthcoming through the PTO Board. St. Leo the Great 2010 Auction
Tickets are now on sale for this year’s “Bringing the World to Our Children” Auction Gala. This year’s Dinner, Silent and Live Auction will be held Friday, April 30 at the International Country Club in Fairfax, time to be announced. Rice Bowl Lenten Collection
The Rice Bowl Lenten Collection through school will continue until Friday March 26, 2010. If your family has participated in the school rice bowl collection, please have your student return his/her rice bowl to the classroom on or before Friday March 26th. Thank you

ATTENTION AFTERNOON CARPOOLS
Some concerns have arisen regarding pets/dogs being brought out of cars at carpool time. I would ask that all pets be kept in cars at all times, to maintain a safe and orderly dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation.

Registration is open from Monday, March 22 until Friday, April 16.  Please visit the website and the Track and Field link for forms and information.

SCHOOL PICTURE DAY
is scheduled for next Friday, March 26th. DRESS UP!!! Equal to or better than the uniform-ties required for boys. School pictures are provided as service to our school parents and are also a valuable fundraiser for the school. A picture order form is being sent home with each student today. Please complete the envelope and have your child return it to his homeroom/homebase teacher before picture day. Extra flyers are available at the front office.

FROM THE PTO
PTO GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING: The next PTO General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, March 24, at 7:15pm in the Gym.  Please see the agenda posted on the school's web site under the "Current News and Important Events" link on the Home Page.  We will be voting on the new By-Laws (also on the News page).  The Executive Board is also accepting nominations for officers for the 2010-2011 school year.  The officer positions up for election this year are listed in the agenda.  Submit your nominations at the General Membership Meeting, or email a nomination to saintleopto@saintleothegreatschool.org.  If submitting a nomination via email, please include the word "NOMINATION"  in the subject line.  It is perfectly acceptable, permissible, and encouraged to nominate yourself!

• Chick-fil-a Cheesecakes - Don't miss out on your chance to get these scrumptious cheesecakes -- perfect for Easter, dinner parties, and gifts.  Cheesecakes are $25 each, and St. Leo's will earn $5 for each one sold.  You can place your order between March 15-25 for delivery at the school on March 31 or April 1 or for pickup at the Fair Oaks Mall location on April 1, 2, 8, or 9).  If you are going away for spring break, please remember that the cheesecakes can be stored in the freezer for up to 6 months...so you can enjoy it when you return home.
• Five Below - Looking for little goodies and toys to fill those Easter Baskets?  Five Below has everything that you need and is donating 10% of dollars spent by St. Leo's families and friends back to our PTO.  Shop at the Fair City Mall and Greenbriar Towne Center locations from Saturday, March 27 through Saturday, April 3, and remember to bring your flyer!
• Fuddruckers End of Season Basketball Competition - Let's celebrate our coaches, players, and the basketball season with some fun & fundraising at Fuddruckers.  Once again, they will donate 20% of sales from St. Leo families, friends, and fans back to our PTO.  Join us anytime on March 20, 21, 25, 27, or 28.  To keep the competition going and show support for your favorite Grade's Teams (4th - 8th grade), please tell the cashier which Grade/Team you want to support.  The Grade with the most in total receipts will win a prize from Fuddruckers!

EXTENDED DAY

• THIS WEEKEND - MARCH 26,27,28 – “INTO THE WOODS” spring play at O’Connell High School. March 26th & 27th at 7:30pm, 28th at 2 o’clock. General Admission $10/person. Students & seniors $5/person.
• MARCH 30 AND APRIL 2 Fairfax City Police & the Optimist Club are offering a Safe Assured Identification Kit between 10-3:30 at the Fairfax City Police Department right next to Saint Leo’s. Parents will receive a full color photo ID and a mini-CD that contains digital fingerprints, a digital photo, video showing movement and mannerisms—general physical description, vital personal information and a family code word. Private information is encrypted and accessible only by law enforcement. A missing person poster can be created and printed from the mini CD. These kits are free and an appointment is necessary. • JUNE 21-25/JULY 26-30 - Paul VI Boys & Girls Basketball Camp $190.00 per camper -- Camp is for rising 3rd - 9th graders. Please contact Scott Allen at coachsallen@aol.com for further information and registration. Camp discounts available per camper for attending two or three camps.
• JUNE 28-JULY 1/JULY 19-22 - St Leo the Great Basketball Camp for Boys & Girls – Mini Hoopster Camps: Boys 9 am - 12 pm - Girls 1 pm - 4 pm....$100.00 per camper.
