PRINCIPAL'S REFLECTION - Mr. David J. DiPippa
8th grade Graduation is around the corner. Students will be receiving their rented graduation gowns hopefully this Friday the 28th. Even though the come pressed, I would ask parents do a quick “touch up” before graduation evening mass and ceremony. Individual graduation pictures will be available starting at 5:45pm in the gym for anyone interested. Informational flyers and pre-order forms will be coming home on Friday as well. A group picture will be taken promptly at 7pm on the steps of the church (weather permitting). Students must arrive at school by 6:45pm to their homebase classroom. After mass, a reception will be held in the gym. Students will return rented gowns to Mrs. Washington in the science room as soon as they return from the ceremony. Parents will be financially responsible for any unreturned gowns.

Special thanks go out to the PTO Board for hosting our annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon today. The school deeply appreciates the commitment of our wonderful volunteers that enable us to provide the resources needed for our Blue Ribbon School! You are the best.

The TerraNova Standardized Test Results are scheduled to arrive this week. They will be mailed to the parents of students in Grades 2-7. These results will be used by the teacher to prepare for the individual and class needs of students for the 2010-2011 school year. If you have any questions about these results, please speak with your child’s teacher and/or Mrs. Polan, Guidance Counselor, at extension 649. Teachers will be available for end of year conferences, if needed, on Monday, June 21st from 8-12 noon and 1-3pm. Please email teachers for conference time. Reading Lists will be sent home next week for Grades 1-8, please take the time to review the list and encourage students to start reading now. Please make reading a priority over the summer months – this will insure a great start to new school year. Summer reading lists are also available under Parent Resource on our school website.

As Always, for the children,
Mr. David DiPippa, Principal

Saint Leo’s Band: Mr. Barry Ward
Beginners Band: A great week last week, great school and parent’s concerts and, wow! What a nice trip to Hershey Park. We are rapping up the program this week with lessons on Monday. Monday will be mostly information sharing, students should bring their instruments. Mr. Ward will be available for questions about summer band programs, private lessons in the summer, renting, purchasing instruments and any other question that comes up on The3wardsdad@aol.com I will be mailing information to you about your child and band, understanding the program and what is available to you can help you make better decisions at the end of the year.
ADVANCED BAND: Congratulations for a great festival/trip! The advanced band was placed second in the Middle/Junior High category at the Music in the Parks Festival (Hershey) and competing for the very first time at that level. All bands at the festival scored Excellent ratings; Saint Leo’s Band scored 86 points and the highest scoring middle school band at 88 points. Not bad for our band with so many students not even middle school age! I am very proud of our band program for rising to the occasion and doing well against programs that have a distinct advantage. The entire trip was a great day, good weather, on time and great Saint Leo students and chaperones. Thank you.

REMINDER FOR ARRIVAL PROCEDURES FOR AREA I:
When the bell sounds at 7:50am, only drivers already in place in Area I carpool lines may unload students. Drivers arriving after 7:50am enter the parking lot and follow the direction of faculty and staff members on duty. These drivers may NOT allow students to disembark until they are directed to do so.

In accordance with the dress code policy, students may not wear silly bands to school. They are a distraction and a potential safety hazard. Please refrain from wearing these to school on uniform days and dress out days. Any choker style necklaces (beaded, braided or any other material) are also not permitted. Please see page 72 of the handbook for clarification. Thank you.
