PRINCIPAL’S REFLECTION
Congratulations go out to Mr. Barry Ward for the outstanding performance last night of our beginning and advanced bands. Special thanks to Mrs. White and the 3rd and 4th grade music classes for their special recorder performance. This was an evening to remember. Tomorrow, our band travels to Bush Gardens, to compete in the annual band festival and competition. Good luck and thanks to all of our parent volunteers who will be chaperoning and make this trip happen yearly...we couldn't do it without you! Special thanks to Mrs. Khavari for organizing all the details for our band students and parents.

This past Tuesday, 8th grade students completed the High School Foreign Language Placement Exam. Results of this exam will be forwarded to us and the parents from the individual Diocesan high schools for recommended placement next year.

To Mrs. Furey, and our PTO Development Committee for all of their hard work for their spring auction. Approximately $53,000 for raised towards enhancing our library and technology equipment, as well as providing additional resources to help keep a Catholic education affordable. Thank you for your generous support of this annual event.

As Always, for the children,
Mr. David DiPippa, Principal

NEWS AROUND THE SCHOOL
On Saturday, May 21, six guitarists joined Mrs. White at the Diocesan Children's Music Festival at Pope John Paul the Great High School. Gino Bretana, Ian Harkes, Mark Wenner, Veronica Cena, Nadine Rozell and Megan O'Keefe performed along with 5 youth choirs in the new high school auditorium. They played awesomely and showcased our Guitar Elective! Thanks to them and their parents for being there!

The 8th grade members of NJHS took a field trip to Luray Caverns and the Mrs. Waldron's farm on April 30. The trip celebrated their hard work at providing service and fundraising for the school and for charity. The trip was such a success that Mrs. White and Mrs. Lyle hope this will become an annual event for NJHS. Thanks to Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs. Harkes and Mrs. Cena for providing transportation and chaperoning, and special thanks to our former teacher, Mrs. Waldron, for the fun she planned for us!

About 8-10 volunteers are needed to help set up, serve and clean up. Time needed is approx. 11:00 - 1:00. This is a good opportunity for parents or high schoolers needing service hours. If you can help, contact Ginny Cate in the school kitchen at kitchen@saintleothegreatschool.org. Thank you.

Saint Vincent de Paul's Summer Drive
"Money for Mary's Children"
Through May 22nd

Our last SVDP fundraiser, our "Money of Mary's Children" drive begins on May 1st and continues until May 22nd. By bringing nickels, dimes, quarters, or dollars and placing them in your classroom's HCA globe, your donations will be used by the Pantry to purchase necessary food items throughout the Summer months of June, July, and August. Last year donations totaled over $1,200 and were used to buy food items like flour, sugar, bread, peanut butter, jelly, and fruit drink mix, bread, and spaghetti which helped to feed others during the summer of 2008. Remember all you need to do is place your coins into the HCA globe found in your classroom.

What better way to honor our Blessed Mother than to serve others in need!

SEEKING PARENTS K-5 INTERESTED IN GIRL SCOUT LEADERSHIP SUPPORT

Each fall the Saint Leo's Girl Scouts have more girls than parents. Girls are wait-listed or turned away due to parent to child ratios not being met. If your daughter is new to the school or interested in joining Scouts this fall, please consider getting the required training this spring to become a leader in the fall. Grab a partner and do it together! Don't be afraid - it is easier than you think - as a leader you set the frequency, time and ates for the meetings. In addition, you personally benefit from getting to know your daughter's classmates, friends and their families on an all new level. The current Girl Scout Leaders are here to guide and mentor you - if interested, please contact Beth Ward billjoe@cox.net. Julie Baradi baradibunch@yahoo.com or Monette Corrigan monette_corrigan@s5a.com if any other leaders are interested, they could also be added. For a COMPLETE list of courses go to the GSCNC training registration website at http://register.gscnc.org
