Ready, Set, Roar is a before school program which focuses on executive functioning. These cognitive processes enable children to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks effectively. As foundational skills, they play a significant role in a child’s academic performance, social interactions, and overall well-being.
Students receive training in organization, study skills, and how to “unpack” for the day. Candidates are identified by documented student needs, test scores, and/or teacher recommendations.
Each week, our priests visit our students. Their presence in the classroom holds profound significance. As true representatives of Christ, or "persona Christi," our priests bring a spiritual depth and guidance that enriches the educational experience and nurtures the faith journey of our students.
Besides leading us in prayer and linking CARE lessons to the liturgy, they are available for questions and are a great example of the Faith. We are deeply grateful to our priests and their commitment to our students.
Each month, Virtue lessons are provided by our Guidance Counselor for each class. Our CARE curriculum, which stands for “Christian Awareness of Respect for Everyone” is rooted in Faith and provides a lesson on the virtue of the month. These lessons will include activities that are related to the virtues, and are integrated with Church liturgy and our mission of service.
Our 2024-25 highlighted Virtues are Responsibility, Hope, Studiousness, Fortitude, Patience, Fidelity, Kindness, Temperance Obedience/Cooperation, and Diligence. Questions? Contact Ms. Merrill at (703) 273-1211 ext. 249 or [email protected].
Our School Nurse
Since 2019, Beth Kappes has worked as our School Nurse. Every day, she serves our students with loving care and conscientiousness, taking care of their needs, often going the extra mile. Mrs. Kappes also spearheads multiple initiatives and programs, such as the Safety Patrols, Kindness Week, Middle School CPR, staff CPR certification, and is working to make Saint Leo one of the first "Heart Safe" Schools in the Catholic Diocese of Arlington through Project Adam. She works as an integral part of our student support team.
Mrs. Kappes also serves as our Inclusion Liaison, working to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Her work with our School Administration and Megan Battle, Inclusion Success Coach helped Saint Leo School win the 2024 Porto Charities "Outstanding Employer Award." In our Instructional Assistant, Mr. Zach Fowler's words, "Mrs. Kappes is awesome!"
